Warn VR EVO 12-S Winch - 103255

The Warn Winch on a C4 Hybrid Fabrication bumper in use on a Toyota Tundra

Get to Know the Product

We purchased the Warn VR EVO 12-S Winch because we candidly got stuck in the snow while snow wheeling solo one too many times and needed the ability to more efficiently self recover ourselves. Basically, we go tired of shoveling snow out from under our truck for entirely too many hours. We decided to go with Warn because we wanted a trusted, tried and reputable brand. We did chose the more affordable option within the Warn line up but the nice thing is that Warn offers multiple price points depending on your budget and needs. Another aspect that influenced this decision was the fact that our C4 Fabrication Bumper was designed to fit this model of winch. Two things to note is that the price of this winch has increased since we purchased the product. We suspect this is because this winch is manufactured in China and the recent tarrifs have likely affected the price point.

Why we Like It

This product is easy to love. We purchased from Warn because of their reputation for producing products that are reliable and this winch has proven to be just that. For that reason it is the biggest reason as to why we like this winch, it just works without fuss or any gimmicks. The remote control option for operating the winch is pretty handy as well!

What we Don’t Like

There are two aspects that we have not loved about this winch.

  1. The 80 ft line is simply not long enough. We mentally thought that 80 feet would be plenty but it is a shockingly short distance of winch line, especially given that you cannot use the last bit of the line. As a result we would recommend ordering a longer cable or a winch line extension if this is the model you decide to go with.

  2. Be mindful of the bumper this winch is installed on. With our bumper it is difficult to get your hands into the bumper for to operate the winch with the chorded option. If you have big meaty man hands, this will be something you will want to test to make sure you can appropriately reach the components you need to reach to operate the winch.

Would we Buy it Again

Yes, we would buy this again. If we were starting from scratch we would consider buying a winch from Harbor Freight as they are significantly cheaper and many off road recovery professionals are using them with great success. That being said, we think that purchasing from Warn is a fantastic option for anyone who wants a tried and true winch to increase their offroad safety.
